Social Studies Breakout

Hangout With Santa Week

We had another great year of Google Hangouts with Santa Claus! The kids wrote letters to Santa and he read them stories and discussed the presents they asked for in their letters! The kids really enjoyed it! 12/11-12/13/2017

Prowise Interactive Board Demo

The lovely ladies at ELB gave us a Prowise Interactive Board to demo for a few weeks. I took it to the Health Science Class and introduced it to the teachers and students. They had a great time interacting with the included software and manipulating the activities provided with their online text book. 11/16/2017

Texas History Mystery

Really enjoyed facilitating this Texas History Mystery BreakoutEDU with Coach Hansen's class at The REALM. The kids did a great job working together to solve the clues and learn more about the Texas Revolution! 11/6/2017

The Tell-Tale Heart BreakoutEDU

The REALM was crawling with creepiness as students worked their way through a BreakoutEDU over The Tell Tale Heart in their English classes. Denizens of The REALM used their deductive and inferencing skills to find answers to clues hidden in the text of Edgar Allan Poe's macabre tale of murder and insanity! It was a perfect way to celebrate Halloween at The REALM! 10/31/2017

NJROTC Navy Ball

My husband and I had the honor of meeting LTC. Allen West (Ret.) during the Joshua High School Navy Ball. We were there supporting our sons who are cadets in the program and both on the Armed Drill team. The NJROTC program at Joshua HS is exemplary and the evening was incredible. 10/4/2017

Breakout at The REALM

Working with Mrs. Dupuis and her students on a Natural Resources Breakout was lots of fun! The REALM kids really enjoyed solving clues and collaborating on our critical thinking problems! 9/26/2017

Advanced Educ-ATE-ion

One of several six hour courses offered for summer PD, Advanced Educ-ATE-ion focused on apps, tools, and extensions that work with our GoogleEDU Suite. 9/16/2017

Chromebook Rollout 2017

It's that time of year again...prep and rollout for our BISD 1:You Chromebook initiative! We finished our rollout by adding 9-12th grade this year! Whew! What a feat! But with teamwork..we got it all done! 8/22-9/8/2017

Convocation 2017

Chromebook Academy - August 2017

August 1st saw the final 3-day Chromebook Prepper Academy of the summer! We had a great group of really fun people! They worked really hard and we enjoyed helping to prepare them for the Fall and the completion of our 1:1 Chromebook rollout! 8/1-8/3/2017

The Summer of BreakoutEDU

All of our BreakoutEDU Academies have been crowded and the boxes stay checked out to teachers all year long! It was a fun, crazy day full of laughter, a little frustration (as they worked through the clues), and GREAT learning. 7/27/2017

TIA in Denton

Denton ISD hosted their annual Think, Interate, Act (TIA) conference in July of this year. Kim and Heather presented and it was an outstanding learning opportunity! Our STEAM MS principal, Brandon Johnson, presented as well! Great keynotes, great presenters and Kim even won a touchscreen Chromebook! Great day! 7/18/2017

Code.Org Training

Burleson ISD hosted an open training for teachers in BISD and surrounding districts! We had over 30 people and 7 school districts represented! The FABULOUS Kim Lane came to lead the training and teachers got to try coding first hand! They got great resources to introduce coding into their classrooms and took home some pretty sweet swag! Add a free lunch, provided by, and it was a fantastic day of learning! 7/14/2017

Admin Rookie of the Year

I was blessed to get to help work on the nomination packet for Darla Kester, Assistant Principal Secretary at Kerr Middle School for Admin of the Year. She made the finals! And while she didn't take the top honor...she's tops in our books! Congrats, Darla! 6/11/2017

BCHS BreakoutEDU

As part of the Burleson Collegiate High School summer bridge program, I ran a BreakoutEDU where incoming freshmen had to use information they'd learned about their new school, teachers, and staff to break in to our boxes. Waiting inside were treats, campus swag, and the satisfaction of knowing they'd learned a lot about their new school! Special shout out to my son, Caleb Estes, who came to help me for the day (he's the good lookin' kid in the ROTC uniform).

Brock All School BreakoutEDU

On Tuesday, May 30th, the students and faculty of Brock Elementary did something that no one had ever done before… until now! They participated in the largest BreakoutEDU experience hosted since the inception of the innovative and new educational concept. Huge shout out to Patti Harju who shared her all school Breakout experience so that Burleson ISD could build this one. 5/30/2017

TXGoo 2017

Most of the Learning Technologies team headed to Kleb Intermediate School in Klien, TX to present and participate in TxGoo 2017. It was a great day of sharing and learning about Google tools! 5/20/2017

zSpace Coding Club Visit

The Academy @ Nola Dunn Coding Club got to visit STEAM Middle School and the zSpace lab at Clinkscale Elementary. They got to explore the 3D Lab equipment, working with robotic arms, architectural plans, bugs, and even a beating human heart. They also made binary bracelets and binary photo match ups. We had a great time! 4/26/2017

BreakoutEDU Academy - April

In an effort to introduce teachers to the concept of BreakoutEDU and to train them on the THIRTY boxes purchased by the Learning Technologies department, we held our first BreakoutEDU Academy. Almost 40 intrepid teachers gave up 6 hours on a Saturday to participate in a breakout and then learn how to work the locks and write their own breakouts! We had teachers who checked out boxes the very next week to use them with their students...they REALLY like the breakout model! What a great day and what great teachers! 4/22/2017

CHS Lit Tank 2017

Another year of our ELA Shark Tank - Lit Tank! This year we had a TIE for top spot! That's a first for us! These kids worked hard and created some great products and presentations! 4/18/2017

KMS History Alive BreakoutEDU

Soon-to-be-Dr. Evil Lenz (soon-to-be because AP Jason Lenz is working on his doctoral degree)…has kidnapped the KMS Librarian, Mrs. April Kuehler, in an attempt to stop students from reading!!! First KMS…then the world! Our students must join together into two teams and stop him! 3/24/2017

Campus Leadership SAMR Training

We really enjoyed getting to work with the Campus Leadership Team on SAMR and Tech in T-TESS. After enjoying a wonderful breakfast provided by Triumph Learning, our fearless leaders dove into the SAMR pool with a BreakoutEDU activity. Then it was on to looking at T-TESS with a technology focus. We really had a great time interacting with the principals and getting to hear their great ideas!3/7/2017

School of Choice Night 2017

CHS American Studies WWII Museum

The kids in American Studies created a walk-through WWII museum with physical and digital displays. They did a great job! 2/13-2/14/2017

TCEA 2017

Made our annual pilgrimage to Austin to participate in TCEA 2017. Great week of sharing and learning. Got to see our friend Shirley Dalby make the finals for Library Media Specialist of the Year...and came back with enough ideas to keep us busy for a very long time! 2/6-2/10/2017

KMS Virtual Curridulum Night

I worked with the teachers and administrators of Kerr Middle School to help them host their first ever Virtual Curriculum Night! We had pre-recorded and live-streamed videos for parents and students to watch! Shout out to Lindsay Foster for being my spare set of hands that night! 1/17/2017

CHS American Studies Breakout
